On 4 July, 1982 a diplomatic car belonging to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Lebanon was stopped in Barbareh area by soldiers under the command of the Israeli Army. In a move which violated all international conventions and diplomatic immunity, the four occupants of the diplomatic car were kidnapped. They were returning to Beirut from the port city of Tripoli, under the escort of Lebanese Diplomatic Police. Seyed Mohsen Mousavi, charge d' affaires of the embassy, Ahmad Motavesselian, staff of the embassy, Taghi Rastegar Moghaddam, staff of the embassy and Kazem Akhavan, IRNA correspondent and photographer, were the four Iranian diplomats who were kidnapped by Israeli soldiers. The families of these abducted diplomats have been looking forward to seeing them again for more than 29 years.
